The most fascinating deliverable from quantum speed is enabling applications that do not exist because they simply are not economically possible.
What is not possible is not much on people’s mind - except those who listen to midnight radio shows.
If you are over 50, you will recall a time when people communicated by mail - the kind with a pen, paper and stamp. You will also recall a time music came on vinyl records - and cost a lot.
Few envisioned music would be on your phone - on a touchscreen.
If you cannot envision something, you neither want it nor miss not having it.
Here’s one quantum-speed example we discovered, while not looking for it.
Data moves over time.
For instance, when we were looking at voter rolls in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas, Florida - really big states, we did not take only one copy of the voter roll - we took copies every week or month.
We called them snapshots.
Close to the election, it was every week.
When you see the same data - via snapshots - day after day, week after week, and run them together, you see a movie.
What the early film-maker did here was take snapshots, at different instants, and when run together, they produced a movie.
The movie generated a ton more information than any individual photo.
A movie tells a story as the data - the rider - changes form over time.
One can see the rider compared with another rider - over time - generating insight not possible with individual photos. The photo becomes a race, not a picture.
This is the value of snapshotting data - comparing it instantly with the previous snapshot - and seeing difference, contrast and movement.
How do you do this when you have 10 million records - like Pennsylvania voters - and you have 77 copies of those 10 million - on different dates?
That’s about 800 million records - comparing every record against every other record and finding if a comma has moved! From a phone - with instant results.

For each record you have 30 columns - like name, address, date of birth - attributes.
How do you make a movie - from this massive data - for groups who raise their money from bake sales?
How do you deliver such a system in less than 2 weeks?
That problem came our way when we ran voter rolls - in about 25 states.
Fractal delivers quantum speed - on current hardware - and it is possible because I/O is reduced to such a degree that blinding speeds - quantum speeds - are at hand.
How fast is fast?
How about 200 million transactions per second - per Fractal - and for some systems we have hundreds of Fractals? That’s pretty fast - as in the fastest technology in production today!
Our team did not just do this for Pennsylvania, we did it for Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan and a dozen other states. We currently maintain the largest database of voters, voter histories, voter movements ever assembled - by a factor of 10.
The Fractal voter database has something we think politicos would be interested in - see how their customers - called voters - change over time.
Why is data movement - not just moving to a new address - why is data movement important?
Humans change as do their preferences, limitations, abilities, tastes.
There are companies generating billions in revenue who know if you live in zip code 12345 you are likely to have a certain income, be married or not, vote for candidate A or B, shop at high end boutiques or C-stores.
They know if you are likely to make kale salads or eat Cheetos on the sofa.
Their data is not particular to the individual - it is particular to the group.
If people live in that zip code, they are likely to be like others in that area. Birds of a feather thing.
Quantum speed not only enables literally trillions of records to be searched, compared at silicon speed - I/O reduction reduces the data storage needed by 85% to 90%. So those snapshots don’t seem so onerous in a Fractal world.
That means quantum-speed Fractal gets you not just to the zip code, but the guy on the couch.
The following is now possible.
Billie voted in 3 of the last 7 significant elections. Billie moved over 12 years, from zip code 12345 to 87654. From a group analysis, we know a lot about his economics, tastes and habits.
The quantum speed team then compared Billie over 12 years across 55 copies of the voter roll. He did not have to vote to be on that roll - he just had to be a voter.
What changed?
His address changed 3 times. The zip codes showed his movement, consistent with his age moving to better communities.
His family changed because more people of the same name showed up at his addresses.
Cross searching the U.S.P.S. change-of-address rolls, Billie moved out of state, then came back into the state.
No government system can track this today because voter rolls - for instance - are a state thing. Since Fractal knows where he moved - from the U.S.P.S. public data, we could track him to another state then back again.
When he returned to his original state he received a different voter ID.
So for the politicos, his history began that day.
For our team, we appended his new ID with the older one and we have his total history - thus the snapshots.
Marketers are very interested in tracking people, addresses, and changes over time.
One of our current initiatives is to demonstrate how individual buying habits can change over time, thus product placement is far more predictable.
Current technology has some serious limitations here.
Current technology chokes on merging gargantuan databases from different sources, built at different times, for different purposes.
The Fractal team loves those challenges.
For instance, we integrated the voter databases for 25 states - merged them - with unlike attribute fields - into a single database - so any query works against any individual state database.
We did this in less than a week.
Not stopping there, we took the property-tax databases for many of the states and cross-searched them with the voter rolls - showing people registered to vote from a Walmart.
The technical term for merging databases is called ETL (extract, transform, load) and quantum-speeds make quick work of it.
One potential application might be to merge the major CDC databases - tracking patient outcomes tied to treatments - over decades.
Why do we say decades?
Commercial customers often want to check the Fractal system - like a billing system - against their current billing system.
So they take 10 years of prior transactions and run them through the Fractal system - reconciling the results. This process takes minutes, not hours or days.
In one case, a major corporate billing system - consuming an $80 million data center - 4 hours a day - running for over 90 clock hours a month - ran in less than 3 minutes in a Fractal environment - on a computer you can hold in your lap.
In healthcare, one might want to do this with old data to identify treatments missed with current, obsolete technology.
Another use case might be comparing every Medicaid and Medicare recipient with a state’s DMV records - to see if there are people getting treatments who ought not.
Whatever the application, Fractal quantum-speed means real-time.
Why is this important in health care?
For 80 years, every doctor used X-ray technology to diagnose broken bones. The X-ray didn’t do much for soft tissue disease or joint and ligament maladies.
Thus, the MRI and CAT-Scan were invented - and entire new classes of diagnoses became possible.
Making movies out of patient data - traversing billion or trillion record databases - at machine speed - the speed of silicon - offers the same leaps in treatments.
Those leaps yield early diagnoses - reducing the need for late stage, wildly expensive treatments.
Real-time opens new doors.

Checking billing codes as they are entered - using A.I. powered by quantum-speed technology - for every medical claim in every state every day - so the provider is paid properly - thus improving patient outcomes - is now at hand.
Tracking people’s health-changes over time, cross searched with other databases to enable physicians to see causal factors for diseases - decades before they could do so with current obsolete technology - is now possible.
The hidden benefit is ending the mad-dash to convert farmland to data centers.
In a Fractal world, there is no application we have ever seen - and we have seen the biggies - that needs a data center.
Any application, including A.I. can be run in a Fractal quantum-speed environment and use the power of a microwave over, or maybe a few - but no need for the 4% of the electrical power now spent on data centers.
Fortunately, the Fractal quantum-speed world does not make use of the virtually obsolete security features in current technology.
Fractal applications have “sovereign-level” security.
Sovereign-level security means Fractal is not simply protecting from the kid in the basement, it is protecting from the Chinese or Soviet government-level hacker.
